Feng Shui Consultant – Undercover Detective

I have spent the last several years of my life as a Feng Shui consultant, and enjoyed every moment of it. Much of the amusement comes from interaction with people of different walks of life and under various circumstances. I derive a certain pleasure in shocking people, (especially those who are openly critical of what I do) with my Feng Shui based insight, and draw quite a few laughs in the process.

Using Just the GUABACK TO TOP

A few months ago, I was a guest speaker at a dinner addressing a select club of high profile personalities. Instead of launching into the usual boring “feng-means-wind-and-shui-means-water, yin and yang” stuff, I decided (at a great risk) to take on members of the audience, and just using their YEAR of birth, tell them a few things about themselves. I will show you how I did it (It was a great success) and then you can do it too. (Details are in the section “ The 8 Guas, which one are you? ")

I start by asking their date of birth, and calculating their gua. It takes ten seconds. I then give them a short character analysis of themselves, (I stick to only the good parts) using the trigram relating to each gua as a point of reference.

You may find it easier, and fun, to follow this article if you print out a copy of the chart “Relationship Meter” and refer to it as required!

My method
Look at the trigram Li (gua 9 element fire)
The two unbroken lines outside indicate a strength that is apparent from the outside but the broken line within, shows a softness (DON’T SAY WEAKNESS – THIS IS A HAPPY EVENT, REMEMBER?).

Now you know that Li is beautiful, and they always like to shine (Li, think candle – flame), hence these folk are usually concerned about their own appearance. You can add that they are perfectionists (OK that is not from the trigram, but my observation) Study all the Gua attributes, observe someone you know who happens to be a LI gua. Observe a man as well as a woman and see the differences caused by gender, as Li is a female, but you want to know how a MALE Li gua behaves. MALE Li Gua is the Sun. The sun rises and shines on its own schedule, and it does not need anybodies help. Make your notes. Build your own version of a Li character profile, using a person of Li gua that you know as a reference point.

Then ask the gua of the spouse. If the spouse is say a Kan, gua 1, (water) you can say that the spouse controls him. (because water controls fire - basic 5 element theory) Think of water putting out a fire, a cloud blocking the sunlight, get the picture? The relationship meter does this for you!

As another example, consider a man of Kun gua 2 (soft earth) with a wife of Kan gua 1 (water). You can bet your life that his wife confuses the hell out of him. Why? It’s because water (gua 1) makes yin earth (gua 2) muddy, indicating confusion. I recently did this using the daughter in law and mother in law relationship as examples, at a women’s’ gathering and I had a hysterical audience. The session went on till we were pushed out of the venue for over staying the booked timing way beyond reasonable limit. Let me mention here that the mothers in law sportingly, laughed the loudest.

But the basic 5 elements are not enough. You also need to know the exact nature of the Yin and the Yang of the 5 elements and the speed at which they react, and the quantity (that means the number of persons of each gua in the family) to really get your teeth into this.  This is why the reaction between a gua 2 and a gua 1 is very different from the reaction between a gua 8, the other earth gua Gen, and a gua 1. In both cases, the relationships are those of earth and water, but in each, the polarity of the earth is different.  A Gen gua (element yang earth # 8) is actually able to control his Kan Gua (element water # 1) wife well. (Hard rock can hold or direct water beneficially, and since water is the element that earth controls this is “sentimental” or proper control. (Simple basics of Bazi).

If a person has nobody of the gua of his resource element in the family (that is the gua of the element that produces him), he will generally feel bereft and without support. Work out the rest for yourself. For those who are scratching their heads now, you get all the answers after attending one of my workshops on this subject that I hold periodically, or get a synopsis from the section “ Gua Relationships ”.

This is an amazingly accurate method of analysis and I have used this to size up clients, students and all those people I interact with. I use it to help my clients understand their adversaries and anticipate their moves and it is an extremely useful tool.

Analysis using this simple means of Gua is just ONE OF THE WAYS of using Feng Shui tools to find out more about a person. There are other ways.

Considering the effect of Annual LuckBACK TO TOP

For a physical  on-site consultation:
Every year each Gua has an annual star, and also monthly stars influencing it.  As the first example, 2003 had the Xun Gua 4 (South East) afflicted with the annual 5 yellow stars. Now if you add on the effect of the monthly and daily stars, you have more points of reference. Since the gua 4 had the annual 5 and the monthly 2 in April 2003, one can presume illness in that month. By referring to any basic 81 combination list one has (use a reliable one please) you know straight off that this indicates bad health as 5 and 2 are both sickness stars. However, 4 is wood, and wood is known to control earth, so are the effects as bad as say the same annual and monthly stars affecting a gua 1 (water)? Can yin wood (4) control yin earth (2), and is # 5 yin or yang earth? These are matters that are taught in various Mastery Academy courses, and are understood at a higher level, and not by a layperson.

Off hand, one can broadly predict the month-by-month pattern of a persons life using these numbers.

For another example, I am a Gua 3. In 2003, I had an annual 4 in my life palace. See the overpowering influence of the numbers 4 and 7 that describes this incident.

For those who are unfamiliar with Feng Shui, the # 7 denotes yin or soft metal and # 4 refers to yin wood, and can be extended to mean bones as well.

When the monthly 7 arrived, in July, I had the potential to attract the “4-7 type of accident”. It also means, metal and wood clashing. I loosely interpreted it as a car accident (4 wheels and # 4 also means traveling, also means wind so could mean air borne accident. So, I stayed at home for the week that had the worst potential. Not used to being at home in the daytime, I started cleaning the house. However, what I should have known was that the destiny is inescapable, what changes is its intensity! Since my house Feng Shui is good, (naturally!), I suffered the mildest form of this prophecy, all I had was a fall off a metal ladder (#7) with 4 steps. Of course, I broke one bone, (in 4 places) and since I am a gua 3 and 3 means leg, the part that was also injured was my left knee

The doctor put in 4 metal (#7) into my broken bones (again 4 means bones).

Another 4-7 combination.
The last bit, my operation began at 4 pm and I came out of the theatre at 7 pm. (7 and 4 again).

Dwell on these aspects. It is no fun to give you a ready made table though it would be easier and take up less space. Students and Feng Shui enthusiasts, you need to work this out for yourself and record your own observations. Thankfully, I was not spoon-fed and see no reason why I should hinder you by spoon feeding you and stopping your analytical process. However, to help the layperson, I have a table that lists out the current years potential for you.

Assessing the Life PalaceBACK TO TOP

Until now, we have discussed everything without even seeing the property. Once you see the property and draw up the natal chart, look at the LIFE palace of each person. The life palace refers to the section which corresponds to your own Gua.

This will give you a very accurate idea of what is going on in the person’s life. See if the palace is missing, or complete, or extended. Look if it is damaged or comfortable. You will, with a little practice be able to know exactly what is going on.

At a very simplistic level, one can draw basic conclusions. Six months ago, I went to see the house of a family who wanted a baby. The house had a missing sector that was the husband’s life palace. The wife’s life palace was the garage. Outside the garage was a stone quarry. If the person’s life palace is missing from the house, it is not good. In this case he was a Qian (6) Gua, and in addition to it being his life palace QIAN also relates to the father – hence fatherhood may also be a problem. The presence of a stone quarry (also described as a broken mountain) is not very auspicious. In addition, the Xuan Kong numbers showed there was a problem with a baby being born. Once the problem was analysed, we worked out a solution..

Taking some help from the numbersBACK TO TOP

But that is not the issue I am referring to. My Xuan Kong analysis also showed up another problem, that the problem was not only an elusive baby, but also more importantly, an issue relating to the man’s sister. Now I had not been told about this unmarried sister, she not being part of the problem. I asked if she was in a relationship with a younger man, and was soon to marry him. They were shocked and said that there was no such thing at all. I apologized, kicking myself mentally for interfering in what was not my territory, and feeling quite foolish for having made such a startling statement, and more important, that I was wrong.

A week later, I got a panic call from the mother saying that her daughter had just informed them that she was marrying a man not only younger but also financially and socially weaker than her, and could I help. I asked for her daughters date and time of birth, looked at her BaZi (Chinese horoscope) and told them that the daughter appeared to have a happy married life. They need not worry, and as the timing was correct, they should go ahead with the marriage, regardless. That was not what they wanted to hear, so in anger, they did not even settle my dues. (It happens sometimes!)

I heard soon after, from another of their relatives, that the girl is now well settled, happy and pregnant.

There are so many other tools of detection of problems that this forum is absolutely insufficient to state all. I will end by one last simple way, because it is so simple yet so often overlooked

Look before you leap..........BACK TO TOP

I was called to visit a factory having production problems. All the end products were turning out to be second’s or reject quality. Such problems were unheard of in the ten year history of this factory. This had been going on for three months. Now this is a factory that I have Feng Shui’d and where I am consulted before doing even a simple thing like taking on a new recruit or the shifting of a desk. Hence I was in complete shock at this development. It was not expected. At a complete loss, I made a visit, nonetheless.

The factory is rectangular, with the short end of the rectangle facing east 2 (almost emptiness), which is also the facing of the factory.

At the beginning of the year (2003) I had closed the South East exit and stopped all activity in that sector as the 5 yellows were in the South East for that year. I checked the South East, and it was in order. I was standing at the Northeast sector, wondering what could possibly have gone wrong and a thought struck me. I asked the manager what he had dug up in the South West, the section diagonally opposite to where we were standing. He replied “nothing right now,” but yes, he remembered that 3 months ago, they had constructed a new road OUTSIDE the factory. That was in the South West sector, he said. The owner looked at me with disbelief. How did I know that without even going there?

Simple. . .  the Grand Duke had been violated. The new manager did not think it was important to ask me when he did anything OUTSIDE the factory. The lesson here is, it does affect you as the land is yours as well, not just the building. If in doubt, refer to the chart that has all the problematic sectors for the current year and the next.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to make these deductions. Believe it or not, all the methods mentioned in this article get covered in Modules 1 and 2 of the Feng Shui Foundation Course of the Mastery Academy. Course details can be viewed at http://www.masteryacademy.com/.

I am often asked what is more important, BaZi (destiny) annual luck (also destiny), the house orientation and within that the Ba Zhai (8 mansions formula) or the flying stars, water placement, external surroundings, etc. etc. My answer is that each one of these factors has their own degree of influence that must be considered, as layers upon layers of meaning, for analysis purposes. Having a brilliant house Feng Shui wise, may not work as well if the persons BaZi is lousy, and he is going through bad luck pillars. On the other hand, seemingly awful stars and Ba Zhai (and I know of such cases) still do great for one who has just that one correct and therefore all-powerful water placement working for him.

Enhancing your skills will make you even sharper as a “detective”.

I personally recommend using a combination of BaZi, Xuan Kong, San He Feng Shui and more recently Yi Jing, to make the assessments complete.
